Progress. We Has It.

It was a somewhat productive pre-Christmas weekend.  I was able to do some work on the way to and from my in-laws.  Development has shifted totally to the main Windows application in the hopes that we'll have a stable Alpha in some kind of testable state.  We'd like to be able to present something for comments in early January, when Jarrad has hopefully been able to secure a bit of exposure for us at a show in New York.  Shamefully, the December goal fell through due to those damn "Unforeseen Circumstances" people are always talking about.  Who'd have thought?  :)  We spent some time away from the code to do some market research to try and find anything worth considering as competition, but nothing we saw out there really blew us away.  Optimism is still running fairly high.

Domainy Goodness

It looks like nobody has any issues with buying their wares from Drunken Development, so we've taken on that name officially (or as officially as you can without putting forth legal effort).  Note the shiny new domain name.  Smile.  Repeat as needed.

Survey Time!

Quick update everyone. We are putting up a survey to iron out some final details about the flow the application and how you would like to see things. If you could give us your input we would greatly appreciate it. Feel free to add anything we missed or you think useful in the comments section or a message to us so that we can make this the most useful app possible.

A few more things checked off the list

Well worked throughout the holiday on a number of things. Many of them in the background with very little showing at the user level. As for the interface, I did add the Create New Snake window and a few changes to the menu.

As you can see it stil needs to be made pretty, add an icon fix some of the dialogs, things like that. The code behind it is solid and can be used elsewhere so I am happy with that part. We are on schedule to be done as soon as our hangovers wear off. Unfortunately that date changes from time to time :)

Still Chugging Along...

I've finished the snake management portion of the Android application.  Snakes can now be created, viewed, edited, and removed.  A great deal of time was spent learning some of the quirks of Android development (fun fact:  every time you rotate the screen it destroys and recreates what you're viewing) so progress has been slower than I'd have liked.  Luckily, the major functionality is done enough that the rest should be fairly straightforward.  For the alpha release, which we're still hoping to have in a week or so, this will mean finishing habitats, feedings, sheddings, and cleanings.  After that it'll be a lot of polishing and figuring out what important details we may have missed, along with getting the desktop application to sync with the Android app.

For anyone who doesn't care much about the details, let me summarize.  I have a long island iced tea in my hand, a cat who thinks my foot is delicious, and five hours of free time to sit down and code today.  I promise we'll get there soon.

Last Night's work

Well I thought I would post some screen shots from what I had been working on. Keep in mind this is still a work in progress so be nice with your comments :)

Here is a shot of the main page with one of the snakes selected. At the bottom there are 2 boxes showing both the offspring of the selected animal and the siblings.

Once you have selected a snake you can choose to edit the details of the snake and this will bring up the window below.  This will be a very similar window to the New snake window.

A few minor DB changes as well. I will post more later, I should get some more time over the upcoming holiday.

Welcome to the Jungle, Jim.

Welcome to Drunken Development's blog. We'll keep this updated with details on our projects as we make progress. At the moment we're focusing on the Snake Husbandry application (the final branding is still up in the air). We're shooting for an Alpha release sometime in early December 2010 so we can get feedback on the initial design. Expect some updates and screenshots soon!

New Blog!

Well guys we decided to create a blog to document our progress on whatever it is we may be currently working on.

Currently our main focus is the Snake Husbandry application we are writing for Android and PC. We have been writing this over the past month or so and it will be a mobile app on for the Android OS that has a local component that will maintain a database locally of all your snakes and related snakey goodness. More info to come in a further post.

Currently the drunken team consists of Gregg(Double G), Jarrad(BBQ guy) and frequent calls made to Chris(Web Nerd/Yeti).
